Saturday, December 31st, 2005

With 99.5 RT’s year-end countdown, the RT 100, a celebration for pinoy band music is just about fitting as 25 out of the 100 songs came from OPM bands… and these are not just bottom spots….

Finally, Sponge Cola scored one as they topped RT’s list with their power ballad, KLSP, beating out The Day You Said Goodnight to 2nd spot….. and like perennial chart occupant, Hale, they scored three songs in this chart…. note that the 7 of the top 10 songs are all OPM…

anyways, the list goes:

Monster Hails to Hale..

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

The beginning of a "Hale"storm…????

The first year-end pinoy music countdown was unleashed evening of Dec. 23 with the Monster Radio RX 93.1 Countdown Top 7 OPM 2005.

Duplicating their labelmate’s (Bamboo) feat last year, HALE copped three major awards… OPM Song of the Year for "The Day You Said Goodnight". OPM Band of the Year and OPM New Artist of the Year.

They also got the Top 2 songs (The Day You Said Goodnight and Broken Sonnet) , the no. 5 song (Kahit Pa) and the no. 10 song (Kung Wala Ka)… This is for 2005 OPM songs based on their weekly countdown top 7, which in turn is based on their Daily Survey…

Other awardees include Sponge Cola for OPM Indie Band of the Year,  Kitchie Nadal is the OPM Female Artist of the Year and Artstrong, OPM Male Artist of the Year

The pinoy band songs that made it into the RX 93.1 year-end OPM top 20 are…

  • 1. The Day You Said Goodnight - Hale
  • 2. Broken Sonnet - Hale
  • 3. Stay - Cueshe
  • 4. Same Ground - Kitchie Nadal
  • 5. Kahit Pa - Hale
  • 8. Gemini - Sponge Cola
  • 10. Kung Wala Ka - Hale
  • 11. You’ll Be Safe Here - Rivermaya
  • 12. Akap - Imago
  • 14. Hallelujah - Bamboo
  • 15. Hanggang Kailan - Orange and Lemons
  • 18. Sweet - South Border
  • 19. KLSP - Sponge Cola
  • 20. Tonight U’r Mine - 7 Shots

Hmm, as we wait for the countdown of the other pop stations, can this be the start of an imminent ‘Hale’ storm?…

Year-end PB 20 teaser…

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

what to expect with the year’s top 20 pinoy band songs…

Sponge Cola started the year right with KLSP…will it be included? will Gemini make it, too…? and will Una be a fitting ending for the year?…

Hale will surely be in the countdown…the question is how many songs will they log in?

Bamboo, Sugarfree, Soapdish, Orange and Lemons and Cueshe all have songs in the last part of the year that might make it as their second entry…. but only two bands will succeed…

6 Cycle Mind and Itchyworms both released their latest albums in the last part of the year… but which one between Sandalan and Akin Ka Na Lang will enter the countdown…? or will it be both?…

Onle one among Aia de Leon (Imago), Hannah Romawac (Session Road) and Lougee Basabas (Mojofly) will have more than one entry into the year-end chart, who will it be? … will the Pop-rock Princess be there? … and who between Pinay Escobedo (Milk n Money) and Ria Bautista (Paramita) will get the last female vocalist slot in the chart?…

Is Parokya ni Edgar really over the hill? they have 5 qualified songs from Halina sa Parokya… which among First Day Funk, Mang Jose, Order Taker, Gitara and Para Sa ‘Yo will make it?…

you will find out soon enough… that’s the sure thing…

Year-end na….

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

Looking forward for the year-end…

2005 is about to end, and I can’t wait to find-out what will the PB 20 be for this year… the twenty hottest pinoy band songs for 2000 + 5!!!

Of course, I will be posting the PB20 for ‘05 on January 01, 2006, so as not to preempt any year-end countdowns of the radio stations…

which reminds me…

Monster Radio RX 93.1 will be the first to unveil their OPM countown on Dec. 23, Friday, 6 PM, with the year-end OPM countdown TOP 7… they will be announcing their choices for OPM Song of the Year, Best New Artist and Band of the Year… flashback, Bamboo swept it last year, i think… their Countdown TOP 20 for the year will be on the next Friday… (The Top 20 will be on, not Friday, but, Saturday - New Year’s Eve, too…)

Campus Radio 97.1 WLS-FM will also have its year-end countdown on New Year’s Eve..  they will be announcing Artist of the Year and Best New Artist, too… Last year, it was South Border and Bamboo, respectively…

Magic 89.9 will announce their year-end Final Countdown Top 30 on New Year’s Eve, too… I am not sure if they will continue announcing a number of awards in different categories for both local and foreign… I will try to find out…  (the FC Top 30 will indeed be on new year’s eve… the E.R. Picks will be on Thursday, Dec. 29 and the OPM Top 10 will be on Tuesday, Dec. 27)

NU 107 have made their choices in the Rock Awards, so it’s just a matter of finding out the 107 songs that rocked the nation… New Year’s Eve, too?

For 99.5 RT, Jam 88.3 and Wave 89.1, I will have to find out more details… (99.5 RT will have their RT100 on January 1, Sunday from 6 am onwards… Jam 88.3 will have all the specials on Dec. 31… Top 12 On the Charts and the TOP 15 Local Licks for 2005)

KLite will have their Top 103 year-end tally on Dec. 28, Wednesday…
