February’s Astig!!!

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

The sad trend of less Pinoy band songs being listed on local radio countdowns continues HIT-FM 99.5 (8-Ball) and NU 107 (Stairway To Seven) are the only ones left to carry the fight for our local musicians…

But we still have the 12 astig songs for this month:

Chicoscichicosci_repackaged
  1. Seven Black Roses - Chicosci

this song stayed at #1 for two weeks… coinciding with the band’s inking a distribution deal with MCA-Philippines, thus making it necessary to re-release a repackaged version of the self-titled album they independently released last June of 2006… of course, there are bonus tracks, including 7 Black Roses (To Sleep) which added to the song’s popularity among the young crowd…  don’t forget to catch Vampire’s Ball, their repackaged album launch party on March 2 at Eastwood Central Plaza!!!

2. Di Ko Alam - Pumping Pluto

after their successful NU 107 run, they are now dominating the Hit-FM 99.5 charts… February definitely belongs to them on the 8-Ball countdown…. hope to see the release of their debut album soon… this song is the first Indie song to reach #1 at the PB20, staying there for one week…

3. Sundo - Imago

the second single from Blush, this haunting semi-ballad again highlights Aia De Leon’s sweet voice… #1 this week, it hopes to duplicate Taralets‘  3 weeks stay at the top…

4. Sa Diyos - Razorback

I really don’t know if this song will precede a new album…  but this is definitely a new sound for Razorback for me… i like it, but I doubt if they will stick to this style… by the way, why the sudden theme? it’s the hottest song to debut this month….

5. Prinsesa - 6cyclemind

one of the last songs to benefit from Campus Radio 97.1 WLS-FM’s support… this song is actually enjoying massive airplay, thanks to the band’s sponsor: Tanduay T5….

Still included are:

6. Panaginip - Wake Up Your Seatmate

7. Love Team - Itchyworms

8. Borrowed Time - Cueshe

9. Magbalik - Callalilly

10. Waves Calling To Embrace - Plane Divides The Sky (hot debut song this month)

11. Tatsulok - Bamboo

12. Hide And Seek  - Hale

This February, the other hot shot debuts are follow-up singles:

Queso
  Insekta - Queso

this song comes from their self-titled album released last year… it has the distinct Ian Tayao sound, but it also has a very astig (for me) intro… makes me think of the Gorillaz actually…

Sponge_colatransit_8
  Tuliro - Sponge Cola

finally, the follow-up to Bitiw from Transit (",) it is long overdue, and they chose a playful song… let’s see if this song will go straight to the top, too…

That’s it. Hope pinoy band songs will rank higher next month… (",)

refreshing radio news this time!

Monday, February 19th, 2007

—– not that I’m glad that Mo Twister is on suspension, but i’m really happy to hear King DJ Logan and Slick Rick on a morning show again… Magic 89.9 really knows its moves, they also had Tetta News last Wednesday for the forbidden questions… Krissy, Ate Luds and Brando Braganza…. sexy time!!!

—– just glad that Hit-FM 99.5 has reincarnated the Raw Tomatoes show… it has now UNLISTED! airing still on Monday afternoons and hosted still by Neal Almighty…. one of the few shows that gives ample airplay to unsigned bands…

—– guys would certainly love to listen to NU107 every Saturdays…. not only because it is remote control week-end, not only because of the First Show, but it is the day you get to hear Trish, Shannon, Dylan and Mallory go onboard one after the other….

RADIO REFORMAT - worst one!

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

Campus Radio 97.1 WLS-FM is no more!

In a move that I can only suspect to be Mike Enriquez’s doing, the FM radio station of GMA is now known as 97.1 Barangay LS… Forever!

It thus joins Love Radio 90.7, Energy-FM 91.5, I-FM 93.9, 101.1 Yes-FM, 101.9 Alam Mo Na Yan and Star-FM 102.7 as ______ radio stations… well, you fill in the blank…

note: i have nothing against these stations, but I truly believe that FM stations, aside from late night news, should be at the forefront of inculcating English proficiency in young adults… now, LS-FM joins GMA-TV News as a media for shallow tagalog, taglish and pinoy street colloquialism in mainstream broadcasting… really sad, that’s how I feel…

what is worse is that the old Campus Radio used to be one of the more supportive english-language stations to pinoy bands… they have the Rock-It Launcher, they have the Campus Tour, they have Other People’s Music and they have the Top 20 @ 12, which is the only countdown (aside from the Stairway To Seven and 8-Ball) where there is often a 50-50 distribution between local bands and foreign acts….

i hope there is still a chance to revert to the old format… i ask you guys to sign the online petion below:

every little bit helps…
